Abstract

Jayapura is one of the cities in Indonesia which is directly adjacent to other countries.Besides as the gate of sovereignty of nation, its strategic position also is an entrance forforeign exchange. 70% basic needs of West Sepik Province (Sandaun) located inPapua New Guinea is supplied from the Indonesia border market. This article aimsto discover the motivation of BIPA learners in Vanimo Secondary School and DonBosco Secondary School. This article used qualitative descriptive method. The data wasobtained from questionnaire and interview with the students of BIPA. The result ofthis article indicates a high desire to shop for cheap prices in Indonesia. By masteringIndonesian language, they also able to use bargaining techniques they cannot obtainedthroughout Papua New Guinea. BIPA program in Vanimo is expected to attractstudents to come and shop in Indonesia.

Abstract

By analyzing a political debate, we can uncover a lot of political things implied. Thiscritical discourse analysis research with the framework of Hamad’s (2007) andFairclough’s (1995) theory analized the first political debate among the candidatepairs of governor and vice governor of Jakarta 2017. Specifically, the research is aimedat (1) describing discourse construction built by each candidate pair, (2) uncoveringself-image of each pair, and (3) uncovering the negatif image created by each candidateto attack the other candidates. This descriptive-qualitative research found that firstthere are a lot of positive issues raised by incumbents. On the other side, theoppositions tended to raised negative issues which potentially to drop the incumbents’image. The second, the incumbents tended to build his image as a successful leaders towelfare people. Conversely, the oppositions tended to build their images as theprospective leaders which pro to people, contracondemnation, and respect to ethic andmorality. Related to the image of political opponents, this research found that theincumbents as well as the oppositions constructed a various of negative imaging toattack their political opponents.

Abstract

Tetun is one of the moderate category languages in number of speakers in Timor Leste.This research explains and describes verbal semantic roles of Tetun language, i.e.verbal semantic roles of state bs, action, and process. Data analysis uses qualitativedescriptive method. The result indicates that verbal semantic roles of state in Tetunlanguage tends to show state of physical, state of mind. Verbal semantic roles of actionis a representation of natural meanings of act, happen, and displacement/movement.Verbal semantic roles of process in Tetun language has both regularity of movementand event. Verbal semantic roles of state, action, and process show interestingimplication, i.e. the existence of correlation between the inherently valence of state,action, and process verbs, especially on the first exponent.

Abstract

This paper aims to reveal the personality changes of Nayla's character in novelNayla. The data source of this research is a novel by Djenar Maesa Ayu publishedby Gramedia Pustaka Utama in 2012. Data collection is done by literary technique.This study uses Karen Horney’s psychoanalysis theory. This paper uses analyticaldescriptive method with psychoanalysis approach. This discussion produces thefollowing. First, relationship disharmonic of parent and children, creating events thatencourage inner conflicts of Nayla’s character. Second, anxieties that underlie innerconflicts trigger the emergence of neurotic behavior in the form of Nayla’s figuresdeviant actions to achieve significance of life.

Abstract

Malangan mask puppet has many plays containing local wisdom. One of itis existed in Adege Kadiri play and was shown in Gebyak Topeng SeninLegian show. This study focuses on how the form of local wisdoms in AdegeKadiri play are and have purpose to reveal the local wisdom in Adege Kadiriplay. This research uses analytical descriptive method. Then, the theory oflocal wisdom is used to analyze the local wisdom in Adege Kadiri play. Theconclusion of this research reveals that Adege Kadiri play contains localwisdom which can be used as guidance or teaching.

Abstract

Fable of Dayak Bakumpai is one of various fable spread out in Indonesia. This fabelindirectly represents noble cultural values of Bakumpai society. An understanding of sociallife, wisdom, and public policies of Dayak Bakumpai can be learned through the characterand nature of the animals in the fable of Dayak Bakumpai. This fable is ought to bepreserved, in order to sustainable. This writing briefly describes the representation of the sociallife of Bakumpai society in the fable Dayak Bakumpai. The method used in this writing isqualitative descriptive method with note taking technique, interview, and literature. The resultof the analysis provides a brief overview about social life representation of Dayak Bakumpaisociety in the fable Dayak Bakumpai.

Abstract

Language as a means of communication in community has an important role in life,both urban and local communities. Theories applied in this paper include interculturalcommunication (Liliweri, 2016), language studies (Yule, 2014), sociolinguistics(Sumarsono, 2013), and other related theories. This paper aims to describe urbancommunity communication strategies in adapting in Pontianak City. The methodapplied is descriptive method with qualitative approach. The result of the analysisshows that communication strategy used by urban community to adapt in Pontianakcity through culture, language, and society. The form of adaptation of urban societythrough culture in Pontianak City by showing the characteristic of its culture so asgiving space and its own value for society in that city. In practice, these culturalactivities use ethnic language (Dayak language, Chinese language, and Malay dialectof Pontianak) and Indonesian language.

Abstract

Sentani language is the one of local languages in Papua which is endangered.Therefore, efforts are needed to slow the symptoms. One of them by teaching thelanguage of Sentani to children at an early age. So far there has been no research ineducation and teaching that supports Sentani language defense. This is marked by theabsence of teaching materials Sentani language. Teachers do not have guidance inteaching the Sentani language so that the existence of teaching materials is importantso that the learning of Sentani language is more structured, effective, and successful.This research is based on a general approach of research and development or researchdevelopment. The theory used is the theory of principles and procedures development ofteaching materials with language learning approach. Data collection was done by directobservation, interview technique, questionnaire of requirement analysis, and technicalnote. The result of data analysis is the early model of Sentani language teaching bookfor beginner which consists of unit one greeting theme (Foi Moi). Unit two familytheme (Imea). Unit three healthy body theme (Uga foisele). Unit four food theme(Ramang). Unit five numbers theme (Me bheai). Unit six color theme (Rahe bhu).
